I want to introduce you to one of the hidden treasures on my book shelf: Haute Couture, The Polaroids of Cathleen Naundorf.
Fashion photography is what puts the magic in fashion, creating an own merry world. I got this book as a birthday gift from my boyfriend last year and I’ve been flipping through it whenever I need to escape this world or feel in need of creative inspiration.
Cathleen Naundorf is a French/German fashion photographer who has created her haute couture series “Un rêve de mode” focusing on seven couture houses : Chanel, Dior, Gaultier, Lacroix, Saab, Valentino and Philip Treacy. Thanks to her close relations with many of the designers and her magnificent photo talent, Cathleen got the honor and privilege to choose whatever gown from the couturiers’ archives to use in her magical and elegant photos. This book is a selection of the best photos that sprouted from this collaboration.
To gain the old, spotty and poetic effect, Cathleen works with large format cameras like Plaubel or Deardorff and uses mostly Polaroid or negative films. She plays around with the chemicals the get the effect she’s looking for in each picture. Every photo is a handmade piece of art.
Be sure to look up more of her work, it’ll brighten up your day! Even better: get that book on your own shelf, you won’t regret it.
xoxo
