Merry trend: Skirt over pants!

Kenzo FW14 Natalie Joos

Yes, we’re back from Paris! Fully inspired and ready to share it with you.
First trend to caught my eye: the skirt (or dress) over pants look.
Seen in pretty combos on the Kenzo runway and on the endless legs of Natalie Joos. Both completely different, both equally elegant.
We saw this trend before back in FW12, in the Louis Vuitton collection (remember the old-world train station collection?) and also our dearest man-repelling Leandra has been a big fan of the skirt-over-pants for a while now.
Well since Kenzo is taking it on next season, it’s bound to hit the streets this time!

Not an easy trend though… It’s all about proportion and layering. You don’t want all the layers to pile op in the wrong place and thus add a few pounds to your beloved waist. Or you don’t want to shorten your legs cutting them in the wrong place… Hmm… How to deal with it?
I love how Natalie Joos creates an endless leg situation by combining a very high split with an almost-skin-colored-orange flared pants. Fascinating. Definitely a well placed tromp l’oeil, as they would say in Paris.
About the Kenzo look: I don’t think this will be my kind of styling, being a generously-boobed lady and all. I would simply look fat in this ankle to chin closed up silhouette. But I do like it anyway!
Practically I think, for this trend, it’s important to combine transparency of fabrics and/or difference in length to the fullest. Definitely wear a pair of heals with it and have some fun! I hope these will inspire you:
